Program Purpose

The Associate of Applied Science degree in Information Systems Technology offering a shared core, and once completed, a selected concentration of Information Systems Specialist or CyberSecurity.

The CyberSecurity Track provides students with comprehensive knowledge of computer and network design in the area of information security. The program enables students to understand the threats that face computers and networks. In addition, the program enables and encourages students to learn essential problem-solving skills, industry best practices, software applications, and core technical skills used by information systems and technology industry professionals. The program also prepares students to take information technology industry certifications, e.g. CompTIA A+, CompTIA Network +, Cisco Certified Entry Network Technician (CCENT), and Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA).

Students will enter the CyberSecurity track at the beginning of their second year and must have a grade of “C’ or higher in all Information Systems courses. Prior to their acceptance, they must also obtain a satisfactory background check.

Opportunities

Graduates are qualified for positions as systems administrators, call center support technicians, hardware and software support technicians, and networking technicians and administrators.

Graduates may continue their education towards a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field.

Student Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the A.A.S degree in Information Systems Technology, graduates will be able to do the following:

  • Utilize various information security tools given different target systems in different environments
  • Implement countermeasures for various types of attacks
  • Apply a common ethical hacking methodology
  • Design and implement a secure network.
  • Install and Manage Enterprise Networking appliances.
  • Perform entry-level system administrator duties on Microsoft and Linux based operating systems
  • Configure, update, and support Cisco Integrated Services Routers (ISRs)
