Pierpont Community and Technical College is committed to providing quality educational opportunities for all students, and assessment of student learning at the course and program level is an ongoing activity of the institution. Following the guidelines of the Higher Learning Commission, the West Virginia Community & Technical College System, and the West Virginia Higher Education Assessment Council, all students graduating from a Title IV eligible program in a career/technical field are required to participate in course-level and end-of-program assessments as determined by individual programs.
Such assessments may include, but are not limited to, assessments prescribed by the State of WV, national certifications, or accrediting agencies and may be offered through standardized testing at multiple levels, signature assignments, traditional course grades, capstone course projects, clinical practice reviews, and end-of-program testing. Every Pierpont course has student learning outcomes that drive assessment of student learning. Those student learning outcomes assessments are detailed in course syllabi.
The continual assessment of student learning is to ensure that Pierpont graduates remain competitive in the workplace and in other pursuits related to lifelong learning. All findings from the assessment of student learning inform revisions and improvements to academic programming.
Students with questions about the assessment processes may contact the Director or their individual degree program faculty.
