PARA 2994 - Ethics and Professional Responsibility3 hr(s). This course examines the basic principles and rules of ethics applicable to the practice of law for both lawyers and paralegals. In addition, it provides the students with the tools necessary to identify and avoid ethical problems, while providing practical tips to implement in everyday practice. Topics covered include the regulation of the legal profession, the unauthorized practice of law, client confidentiality, conflicts of interest, advertising and solicitation, client fees and fee sharing, competence, disciplinary procedures, and malpractice. The course introduces the students to the types of ethical situations and dilemmas they may encounter as an important part of the delivery of legal services.
