Program Purpose
This Skill Set provides students an in depth understanding of electrical power generation systems such as turbine lube oil, electrohydraulic control, generator hydrogen and seal oil, gland sealing steam, and stator cooling water systems. It also provides an in-depth understanding of midstream/downstream oil and gas processing systems such as gas sweetening, fractionation, and cryogenics.
Student Learning Outcomes
- Draw and explain the operation, flow paths and functions of systems associated with a power generation including gas combustion turbine, steam turbine and a combined cycle combustion turbine/ steam turbine facility
- Draw and explain the operation and flow paths of typical systems associated with a natural gas or petroleum downstream processing facility
- Explain the theory of operation power generation units including steam driven, combustion turbine and combined cycle units
- Explain the theory of operation of midstream/downstream petroleum processing systems and components
- Following plant tours, develop a final oral presentation, supported by visual aids, of the systems observed and explain the operational aspects of the equipment and systems
Opportunities
Skills that enable students to function in a power generation station or midstream processing plant as an operator are skills that are in-demand.
