Program Purpose
The Associate of Applied Science degree program in Technical Studies is designed to (1) provide for cooperatively sponsored education opportunities leasing to associate degrees for employees/students participating in quality education and training programs sponsored by business, industry, labor, government or other education agencies, (2) provide a timely and efficient mechanism to deliver educational programs in a variety of occupational fields to employers, (3) increase the abilities to use technology effectively and responsibly, (4) increase abilities to communicate information effectively through reading, writing, speaking, and listening and (5) develop abilities to solve problems through reasoning, information retrieval and productive teamwork, (6) assist students in understanding that education is a lifelong process.
- Meet with an advisor to determine eligibility to enter program
- Submit official high school transcript or GED scores
Upon Completion of the program, graduates will be able to
- Effectively use written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrate knowledge of interpersonal skills, ethics and applications in the workplace
- Apply principles of mathematics and science to contemporary issues in society and the workplace
- Demonstrate technical skill and critical thinking required in the occupational area of study
The Technical Studies Program generally has three components
- General Education Core (15 hour minimum)
- Technical Core
- Technical Specialty
Some programs have an on the job training component (160 hour training: 1 hour credit, not to exceed 12 hours). Specific agreements that list course requirements for components are available upon request.
Currently, Pierpont has agreements with West Virginia University Hospital and United Hospital Center.
Students interested in Radiologic Technology must apply and be accepted to both Pierpont and to the selected hospital of choice.
