Applied Process Technology Program Coordinator

Program Purpose

This Skill Set enables students to work on electrically controlled hydraulic and pneumatic systems. The concepts of pressure, force, and flow rates will be applied using pumps, valves, and actuators on a daily basis. Students will become proficient in circuit building, parameter measurements, and troubleshooting.

Student Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this Skill Set, completers will be able to do the following:

  • Explain and apply electrical safety rules
  • Interpret and draw ladder logic diagrams and hydraulic/pneumatic schematics
  • Identify and explain the operation of the following:
  • Electromechanical relay, shuttle valves, proximity switch, relay latching holding contacts, servo valves, limit switches, pressure compensated flow control valves, sequencing valves, time delay relays, photoelectric switches
  • Construct and operate basic ladder logic pneumatic and hydraulic circuits
  • Once cycle reciprocating, memory and priority, locking circuit, cascade, time delay, dwell time, deceleration, counting, clamping, two hand safety circuits.
  • Troubleshoot electrically controlled hydraulic and pneumatic circuits.

Opportunities

Skills that enable students to function in many industrial applications including heavy equipment, manufacturing, and process industries are skills that are in-demand.

Required Courses (10 Hrs)

Notice to All Students

This program alone does not qualify for financial aid. Students seeking financial aid eligible degrees may incorporate the classes as electives when their schedule allows or may declare an Associate or Certificate of Applied Science degree major of study in which the courses are embedded.
