Program Purpose
The Associate of Arts in Liberal Studies with a Pre-Social Work Concentration provides the basis for the first two years of a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work (BSW) offered by West Virginia University. This Associate of Arts degree is part of an articulation agreement between the two institutions.
Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the A.A. in Liberal Studies with a Pre-Social Work Concentration, graduates will be able to do the following:
- Meet the minimum academic qualifications for acceptance into the Social Work program at WVU
- Provide the student with the comprehensive overview of the ways that social workers respond to a wide range of societal problems
Opportunities
Students who successfully complete this program will be able to compete for admission into one of 60 slots in the Bachelors of Social Work (BSW) program at WVU. To compete for admission into the BSW program at WVU, students will be required to have the following:
- An overall GPA of 2.50 or higher
- 100 hours of documented paid or volunteer experience
- A written personal statement, and a letter of reference
- A “C” or higher is required in HUMN 2200 and SCY 2995
