Program Purpose
The Administrative Assistant Advanced Skill Set prepares students with entry-level skills needed to obtain employment in today’s office setting. It is also designed to assist currently employed individuals who are making the transition from secretary to administrative assistant/supervisory position.
Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this Advanced Skill Set, completers will be able to do the following:
- Demonstrate proficiency in office skills such as word processing, spreadsheet, database, desktop publishing and web design.
- Apply basic business principles
- Demonstrate workplace mathematics skills
Opportunities
This program will benefit both traditional and nontraditional students who wish to gain skills specific to the changing technology in today’s office setting. The enhanced skills could be used for job advancement as well as new employment opportunities. Students could choose to pursue an A.A.S. degree in Business-Office Administration Concentration; all classes required in this Advanced Skill Set are also required in the A.A.S. degree.

Students seeking financial aid eligible degrees may incorporate the classes as electives when their schedule allows or may declare an associate or certificate degree in which the skill set and advanced skill set courses are embedded.
