Program Purpose

This Skill Set provides hands skills needed for operation of a 450 MW power plant using a plant referenced simulator.

Student Learning Outcomes

  • Using a plant simulation, start, sync to grid, and shutdown a pulverized coal or gas boiler or similar operating unit
  • Using a plant simulation, and given plant off normal or emergency conditions, troubleshoot the condition and take actions to return the plant to normal operating conditions
  • Using a mid-stream oil and gas simulator start and run glycol dehydration unit, tank farm and amine treating units


Skills that enable students to function in a power generation station or midstream processing plant as an operator are skills that are in-demand.

This program alone does not qualify for financial aid. Students seeking financial aid eligible degrees may incorporate the classes as electives when their schedule allows or may declare an Associate or Certificate of Applied Science degree major of study in which the courses are embedded.
