Program Purpose
This Skill Set will enable students to operate a combined cycle power generation facility using an advanced simulator.
Student Learning Outcomes
- Using a plant simulation, start, sync to grid and shutdown a combined cycle unit consisting of one or more gas combustion turbines, heat recovery steam generators and a steam turbine or similar operating unit.
- Using a plant simulation involving combined cycle operations, and given plant off normal or emergency conditions, troubleshoot the condition and take action to return the plant to normal operating conditions.
- Using a mid-stream oil and gas simulator, start and run a typical reciprocating compressor station and a natural gas demethanizer, and other advanced equipment.
Opportunities
Skills that enable students to function in a power generation station or midstream processing plant as an operator are skills that are in-demand.
