Program Purpose

This Skill Set will enable students to operate a combined cycle power generation facility using an advanced simulator.

Student Learning Outcomes

  • Using a plant simulation, start, sync to grid and shutdown a combined cycle unit consisting of one or more gas combustion turbines, heat recovery steam generators and a steam turbine or similar operating unit.
  • Using a plant simulation involving combined cycle operations, and given plant off normal or emergency conditions, troubleshoot the condition and take action to return the plant to normal operating conditions.
  • Using a mid-stream oil and gas simulator, start and run a typical reciprocating compressor station and a natural gas demethanizer, and other advanced equipment.

Opportunities

Skills that enable students to function in a power generation station or midstream processing plant as an operator are skills that are in-demand.

Notice to All Students

This program alone does not qualify for financial aid. Students seeking financial aid eligible degrees may incorporate the classes as electives when their schedule allows or may declare an Associate or Certificate of Applied Science degree major of study in which the courses are embedded.
