Program Purpose
The A.A.S. Business Degree will provide students with an opportunity to develop job-related skills in the business realm while increasing the awareness of their roles and responsibilities in society through profession. Upon graduation, students will possess the necessary skills to function professionally in today’s business environment. Evidence of student mastery is accomplished through either a comprehensive, simulated evaluation or workplace internship.
The program has two areas of concentration, Accounting and Business Management. The program has a core of 15 credit hours of General Education courses, a core of 18 credit hours of Business related courses, and 27 credit hours of specialty courses in the student’s area of concentration.
Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the Business- Management Concentration, the student will be able to,
- Use quantitative and qualitative tools and methodologies to support business management decision making
- Evaluate potential for business success in the area of finance, legal, operation, and administrative procedures
- Identify business management problems and opportunities and formulate an action plan
- Work effectively, respectfully, ethically and professionally with people of diverse ethnic, cultural, gender backgrounds, as well as with people of different organizational roles, social affiliations, and personalities
- Analyze informational content of organizational processes and use information technology
Opportunities
Graduates of the Associate of Applied Science degree in Business are qualified for entry-level positions in business organizations, industrial corporations, government agencies, and independent firms and businesses. Graduates of the Business-Accounting Concentration may find employment in accounting firms, banks, private industry, and government service.
Graduates of the Business- Management Concentration are qualified for entry-level positions in business organizations, industrial corporations, government agencies, and independent firms and businesses. The entry-level positions often lead to managerial, supervisory, and directorial career paths. The Business-Management Concentration also prepares currently employed individuals with updated skills needed for career advancement.
