Program Purpose
The Applied Design Advanced Skill Set combines the fundamentals of visual consumer design that is found in fashion merchandising and interior design. The student can complete this set of six courses in one year online.
The student will study design history and thinking, textile science, introduction to fashion and interiors industries, and research the 21st value of online marketing strategies for entrepreneurship and social media management.
Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this Advanced Skill Set, completers will be able to do the following:
- Apply knowledge of design theory related to visual environments.
- Identify historical design applications in visual environments.
- Communicate and justify, through written, oral, and visual presentation the details, inspiration, problems, solutions, and the vision of proposed designs and solutions.
- Demonstrate an understanding of business opportunities and practices, work ethic,
and professionalism.
Opportunities
The purpose of these credentials is to give people in the fields of merchandising and visual design environments an accessible platform to explore the foundations and fundamentals supporting useful design solutions with an emphasis in Fashion Merchandising and Interior Design. This certificate provides a pathway to develop a new skill set or strengthen an existing one-a necessity as jobs rapidly evolves due to technological advancements.

Required Courses (18 Hrs)
Notice to All Students
- Annual Notification: All career and technical education courses and programs are offered at Pierpont regardless of race, color, national origin, gender, or disability.
- Advanced Skill Set and Skill Set programs do not qualify for financial aid. Students seeking financial aid eligible degrees may incorporate the classes as electives when their schedule allows or may declare an associate or certificate degree in which the skill set and advanced skill set courses are embedded.
