Program Purpose
An Associate of Arts in Liberal Studies with a Pre-Social Work concentration provides students with a strong foundation in human services, communication, and ethical practices, preparing students for both immediate employment and continued education. Graduates are equipped to pursue entry-level roles in community outreach, case management, mental health services, and support programs across nonprofit and public sectors. The degree also serves as a transfer pathway to bachelor’s programs in social work, psychology, or sociology, allowing students to build toward licensure and more advanced careers.
Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the A.A. in Liberal Studies with a Pre-Social Work Concentration, graduates will be able to do the following:
- Meet the minimum academic qualifications for acceptance into the Social Work program at WVU.
- Provide the student with a comprehensive overview of the ways that social workers respond to a wide range of societal problems.
Opportunities
Students who successfully complete this program will be able to compete for admission into one of 60 slots in the Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) program at WVU. To compete for admission into the BSW program at WVU, students will be required to have the following:
- An overall GPA of 2.50 or higher
- 100 hours of documented paid or volunteer experience
- A written personal statement and a letter of reference
- A “C” or higher is required in HUMN 2200 and SCY 2995
