Program Purpose

The C.A.S. Food Service Management - Hospitality & Tourism concentration prepares graduates to pursue dynamic and rewarding careers in the hospitality and tourism industries. This program is designed for individuals who are passionate about creating exceptional guest experiences and aspire to build a professional future in hotels, resorts, tourism operations, and event services.

It also serves as an excellent pathway for those already working in hospitality to advance their careers, gain industry-recognized credentials, and develop leadership and management expertise. Additionally, this program complements other business and food service management concentrations, expanding students’ career options by providing focused skills in customer and personal service, communication and media, planning and organization, and leadership in hospitality management.

Student Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the C.A.S. in Hospitality & Tourism, graduates will be able to do the following:

  • Identify knowledge and skills to achieve guest satisfaction.
  • Practice professionalism and ethics in simulation and real-world experiences.
  • Identify leadership and teamwork practices necessary to meet common goals.
  • Identify basic and supervisory functions in the hospitality industry.
  • Communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Practice technology applications current in the field of practice.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of cultural competence practices necessary for guest satisfaction.
  • Identify best practices to further sustainability in the industry.

Opportunities 

Graduates of the C.A.S. in Hospitality & Tourism are prepared to build long-term, successful careers in the hotel, resort, and tourism industries. With specialized training in guest services, event planning, catering and banquets, housekeeping operations, and front desk management, students are equipped to step into leadership and career-track roles across a wide range of hospitality settings.

Many Pierpont graduates have advanced their careers at prestigious properties, including Stonewall Resort in West Virginia and The Waterfront Place Hotel (a Marriott property) in Morgantown, West Virginia, where they have excelled in roles such as dining room supervisor, front office supervisor, guest services manager, banquet manager, assistant food and beverage manager, and maître d’hôtel.

The program’s hands-on Culinary Arts training further enhances graduates’ versatility, making them competitive candidates for positions within restaurants, inns, universities, banquet facilities, exclusive clubs, and corporate hospitality settings. With the hospitality and tourism industry continuing to grow, graduates are well-positioned to pursue fulfilling careers with strong advancement potential.

  • Annual Notification: All career and technical education courses and programs are offered at Pierpont regardless of race, color, national origin, gender, or disability.
  • Advanced Skill Set and Skill Set programs do not qualify for financial aid. Students seeking financial aid eligible degrees may incorporate the classes as electives when their schedule allows or may declare an associate or certificate degree in which the skill set and advanced skill set courses are embedded.
